CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!
Join the Neighborhood Partners Environmental Team!
|

Members of the Neighborhood Partners Environmental Team will remove invasive species, pick up trash,
plant native trees and shrubs, remove graffiti, and repair the trail.
|
Families and individuals who enjoy the Sand Creek Regional Greenway have a great opportunity for service along the trail on a regular basis this coming year. The Sand Creek Regional Greenway Partnership is collaborating with Westerly Creek and Bluff Lake Nature Center on a brand new volunteer organization--our first ever signature volunteer group. The Neighborhood Partners Environmental Team will work in all three locations throughout the year, removing invasive species, picking up trash, planting native trees and shrubs, removing graffiti, and repairing the trail.
The Neighborhood Partners Environmental Team will kick off its first season on Saturday, March 5th at 9 a.m. at the Smith Road trailhead in Denver. In future months, team members will meet on the first Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. until noon. "The Neighborhood Partners is a great way to give back to your community," said Kate Kramer, Executive Director of the Sand Creek Regional Greenway Partnership. "This team is a great way to get to know new people in the community."
|
The call for participants includes volunteers who have worked on the Greenway before, as well as new volunteers. We welcome singles, couples, students, parents, retirees, and children five and up: everyone is encouraged to join! Volunteers can look forward to meeting new people, getting fresh air, and enjoying an end-of-season picnic to thank them for their hard work.
To sign up for the Neighborhood Partners Environmental Team, come to our first event on Saturday, March 5th at the Smith Road trailhead, or fill out our online volunteer form at www.sandcreekgreenway.org.

We hope to see you on the Greenway! |

Next Generation Partners:
An Exciting New Venture for Neighborhood Youth
|
|
 |
The Sand Creek Regional Greenway is starting a great outreach program for middle and high school students who live along the Greenway in southern Commerce City, northeast Denver, and northwest Aurora. The Next Generation Partners of the Sand Creek Regional Greenway will provide outdoor environmental education, volunteer opportunities, and recreational activities on the Greenway.
This valuable program is being made possible through a generous grant from REI, a supporter and ally of the Greenway since 2004 that sponsors our annual volunteer day each summer. The REI grant program advances community engagement in environmental stewardship, outdoor recreation and volunteerism, and also supports programs that connect young people with nature.
Students in the Next Generation Partners program will learn about opics such as community service, native species, water quality issues, the importance of green spaces in urban areas, and environmental conservation. "The goal of this program is to provide students with an opportunity to get to know thier 'wilderness in the city' while giving them the tools and knowledge they need to help preserve it," said Caroline Fry, Community Outecah Manager of the Sand Creek Regional Greenway Partnership.
For more information or to register your group of students for a summer session, please contact the Greenway at (303) 468-3262. |

A Message From Executive Director Kate Kramer
"Come say 'Hi!' to Caroline Fry" |

AmeriCorps VISTA team member Caroline Fry |
We hope you'll join us in welcoming our newest staff member at the Sand Creek Regional Greenway Partnership, our AmeriCorps VISTA team member, Caroline Fry.
Caroline hails from a small mountain town in western North Carolina, and has served as our community outreach manager since last July. Since joining our team, she has been involved in organizing some exceptionally successful volunteer and fundraising events-- and has used the skills she learned growing up on her parents' plant nursery to educate volunteers about native plants on the Greenway.
We also greatly appreciate her outreach skills, including her adeptness with social media tools, which grow more important every day in reaching our audience. |
"I am so excited to be working at a place where I feel that I really am making a difference," Caroline said about the Greenway. "My heart lies with the non-profit sector, and I'm grateful that AmeriCorps VISTA and the Partnership have given me the opportunity to gain experience in this field."
Caroline brings enthusiasm and energy to all her activities along the Greenway. I know the Next Generation and Neighborhood Partners will have a great time on the Greenway while enjoying every minute of work!
