Meet the Team

  • Monique, who more commonly goes by “Mo,” grew up in the heart of downtown Denver. Her father took her to the mountains to fish and camp from a young age. She believes this is where her connection and love for the environment began. Mo graduated from Chadron State College in 2014 with her degree in Ecology focusing on Wildlife Management and completed her Masters of Science in Management and Strategic Leadership from CSU Fort Collins in April of 2022. Mo has served the Partnership in various roles since 2019, including educator and community outreach manager. Mo is passionate removing barriers to access of the outdoor space and about creating opportunities for all people to spend time immersed in nature.

  • Elena is a Colorado native whose love for the outdoors began in her childhood while cooking jiffy pop over the campfire on family camping trips. After graduating from the University of Redlands in 2018 with a degree in Environmental Science Elena found herself pulled towards the environmental stewardship and education field as her passion for inspiring a love for nature among others grew. Elena comes to the Sand Creek Regional Greenway Partnership with 3 years of experience in hands-on interpretive outdoor education. Elena is passionate about providing opportunities for everyone to access nature and is excited for the opportunity to get youth and adults out onto the Greenway and connect them with the natural world outside their front doors. If she is not out on the Greenway looking for wildlife you can usually find her backpacking, trail running, doodling or cooking in her free time.

  • Midori grew up in Colorado, gaining a strong love for the natural environment by camping, hiking, and taking various road trips throughout the western U.S. with her family. After taking a field trip to NOAA in fourth grade, she became fascinated with atmospheric science and pursued various educations in natural science topics. She graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, a degree in Geography, and a minor in Geology. Knowing the value that nature can add to people’s lives, she hopes to inspire others to seek out the natural environment, build community, and to provide opportunities for field trips like the one that inspired her. In her free time, Midori enjoys reading, playing the piano, hiking, taking nature photos, and exploring the wide variety of natural landscapes and weather Colorado has to offer. Midori is also a Certified Environmental Educator through the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education (CAEE) and brings this knowledge into her program management and facilitation.

  • We're excited to welcome Phoebe McGovern (she/her) to the Sand Creek Regional Greenway Partnership as our new Community Vision and Equity Program (CVEP) Intern! Phoebe is currently pursuing a master's degree in Global Environmental Sustainability at the University of Denver and brings a passion for environmental stewardship, community engagement, and creating outdoor spaces where everyone feels welcome. 

    Over the next several months, Phoebe will help advance many of SCRGP's community-centered initiatives, including supporting outreach events, walking tours, participatory mapping, and engagement activities for projects like our Ecological Assessment and Corridor Management Plan. She'll also help to develop internal tools that strengthen how we engage with and learn from the communities connected to the Greenway. 

    Phoebe's experiences as a summer camp counselor, living and teaching in France, and organizing climate engagement efforts have reinforced her belief that meaningful community connection starts with listening, curiosity, and meeting people where they are. We're thrilled to have her energy, thoughtfulness, and enthusiasm on the team. 

    If you see Phoebe at a Coffee on the Greenway pop-up, community event, or walking tour this summer, be sure to say hello and help us give her a warm Greenway welcome! 

  • Le’alani grew up in Hawai’i and Oregon, deeply influenced by the values of aloha (love) and mālama (care, stewardship) for the land and water. Her path has weaved through environmental design, outdoor recreation planning, community influence and empowerment, and non-profit organizational development. Le’alani’s experience centers around designing and facilitating processes that foster inclusion, collaboration, and strategic decision-making among diverse communities and multi-sector coalitions. Her work has spanned community-driven trail planning with the National Park Service, community-led visioning and advocacy for capital projects with NYC Parks and City Parks Foundation, as well as inclusive engagement campaigns, coalition building, and strategic planning with organizations and communities nationwide. As Special Projects Director, Le’alani is committed to working with the Greenway’s nearby communities to expand experiences of belonging and joy, ensuring the Greenway is a welcoming space for all.
