Bikes and Birds / Bicicletas y pájaros
IF YOU REGISTER PAST 9/15, YOU MUST BRING YOUR OWN BIKE.
Join SCRGP and Bikes Together for another Bikes and Birds event along the Sand Creek Greenway! All ages and abilities are welcome. We will start the day with an optional opportunity to tune up your bike from 9-10am (+ learn some basic bike maintenance tips!), enjoy a short presentation from the City of Aurora naturalists at Morrison Nature Center, then start our ride around 10:45am. We will stop at approximately half-mile intervals to bird, and make our way to Triple Creek Trailhead (18000 E Colfax Ave, Aurora, CO 80011). The total route is approximately 2.6 miles (5.2 miles round trip).
After reaching Triple Creek, there will be an option to ride back to Morrison Nature Center, continue birding at Triple Creek Trailhead, or to arrange your own transportation from Triple Creek Trailhead back to your car/homes.
Coffee, water, and snacks will be provided at the start of the event, but we advise folks to come prepared with their own day pack for any extra water, snacks, sunscreen/bug spray, etc. that you need to be successful!
If you would like to borrow a bike: With the help of Denver Alternative Sports, we can provide a bike for you during this event if you do not have one. Please select this in the form below to make sure we have advance notice of this request. *You must register by 9/15 to be able to borrow one of the bikes for the event. You also must attend a biking safety class at 9:15am on the day of the program.
Transportation and Translation Services: We are happy to offer transportation services and translation services upon request, simply fill out the section on the registration form below.
Español: ¡Únete a SCRGP y Bikes Together para otra edición del evento «Bikes and Birds» a lo largo de la vía verde de Sand Creek! Son bienvenidas personas de todas las edades y niveles. Bumble Bee Buzz: Intro to bee monitoring
Have you ever wanted to learn more about Colorado’s native bees? Join SCRGP and local community scientist Mike Freehling for a fun morning of learning about our local bees, and searching for, identifying, and tracking these amazing creatures.
We will:
Look for and identify bumble bees, other native bees, and floral resources
Learn how to distinguish bees from other insect ” look alikes”
Learn about the importance of native bees
Bumble bees will be the star of the program! We will learn about their life cycle, foraging behavior, flower preferences, and other aspects of bumble bee biology.

Join the Sand Creek Regional Greenway Partnership and Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance for a family-friendly morning of discovery at Wetland Park! Explore small habitats with local species through the Neighborhood Nature Explorer then find and identify some of the plants and animals that call Wetland Park and the Sand Creek Regional Greenway home. This hands-on program is especially designed for kids and families, but curious nature lovers of all ages are welcome!
This event is part of the Greenway Eco Tour Series, which invites community members to explore the Sand Creek Regional Greenway, learn about its diverse wildlife and habitats, and help inform future restoration and stewardship priorities.
BioBlitz with DPR
Join the Sand Creek Regional Greenway Partnership and Denver Parks and Recreation for a morning of nature discovery! We will use iNaturalist to identify and record plants and animals found at the Smith Road Trailhead. Whether you’re an experienced naturalist or just curious about the various forms of life on the Greenway, come and join the group effort to learn about and catalogue the environment in this section of the Greenway. No experience necessary, just curiosity and an enthusiasm for wildlife!

Fall Bird Walk with DFO / Paseo ornitológico de otoño con el DFO
Join SCRGP, Denver Field Ornithologists, and Commerce City Rangers for a morning bird walk during fall migration season. Catch glimpses of the beautiful birds living along the Sand Creek and migrating through during the peak of the fall season while the leaves change color.
Binoculars, bird guides and snacks will be provided to help you identify what you find and to help you enjoy your time along the creek.
We are happy to provide transportation and translation services upon request, simply request in the options below on our registration form.

Beavers in your Backyard / Castores en tu jardín
Beavers are THRIVING along the Sand Creek Greenway! Join SCRGP staff and Park Rangers from Adams County and Commerce City for a program all about beavers. Feel a real beaver pelt, see examples of signs they leave behind, and hear from experts on these wonderful animals that live along the Sand Creek. We will be taking a sunset walk to explore the wetlands, and identify signs of animal activity. This is the perfect time of day to hopefully catch a glimpse of beavers and other animals, while admiring the changing leaves during the peak of fall.

Join the SCRGP and local photographer Lauren Keller for a fun morning of taking pictures of plants and animals along the Greenway. We will use the plant data we collect for our community science program. The SCRGP has five DSLR cameras available for participants to use during programming. Bring your own camera or borrow one of the SCRGP cameras if you are one of the first 5 sign ups. No previous experience necessary.

Bike to Work Day
Take in the summer beauty of Sand Creek and pedal over to the Wetland Park bridge for FREE hot coffee, cocoa, breakfast bites, and delightful conversation.
Address listed (6102 E 52nd Avenue) is the Wetland Park Trailhead. Pedal through the park and around the wetland path to reach the station.

Plant Walk with CSU Extension
Learn more while you explore! Join Adams County CSU Extension and the Sand Creek Regional Greenway Partnership for a native plant walk at Sand Creek Park to learn about the plants around us. The walk will be approximately two miles on pavement and gravel trails.

City of Aurora Water-Wise Day
SCRGP will be hosting an interactive booth at this year’s City of Aurora Water-Wise Day. Join Aurora Water Conservation, us, and dozens of other community organizations for a day of water-wise learning, garden tours, hands-on fun, and smart solutions for thriving in our dry climate.
Come to the Aurora Water-wise Garden and celebrate all things water-wise. Listen to gardening tips from local experts like CSU Extension Service, learn about efficient irrigation from leaders in the industry, Hunter Industries and Rainbird, and chat with natural resource experts on helping pollinators.
Then, stroll the beautiful, ten-acre garden while you enjoy a free breakfast burrito. Take home tons of info on conserving water in your yard, free seed packets collected locally, an indoor water conservation kit, and more! Activities will run from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Black Birders Week Walk 2026
Celebrate Black Birders Week this year with the SCRGP and Denver Audubon! This year’s theme: “Flyways & Freedom: Advocacy, Action, and the Future”.
Started by a group of black nature enthusiasts and biologists from the Black AF in STEM collective, this week is aimed at creating and encouraging greater diverse representation in the world of birding. Join us in celebrating by heading out on the trail for a relaxing and rejuvenating bird walk.

Volunteer Workday: City of Aurora Pollinator Garden Prep
Come out to Sand Creek Park to help prepare our City of Aurora pollinator garden for this season! We will be prepping the garden for planting and then installing native pollinator friendly plants.
No previous experience required. All tools and supplies provided. Open to ages 5 and above. Water and snacks will be provided.

Volunteer Workday: Commerce City Pollinator Garden Prep
Our Commerce City pollinator garden is in need of some serious updates! Come out to the Wetland Loop to help prepare the garden for this season. We will be prepping the garden for planting, installing an Olla irrigation system (it gets toasty out at the garden during the summer), and planting!
No previous experience required. Open to ages 5 and above. Water and snacks will be provided.

Global Big Day Bird Walk
Saturday, May 9th is Global Big Day - a special birding holiday that encourages nature lovers around the world to get outside and look for birds! Last year more than 50,000 people from 200 countries participated in Global Big Day on eBird to create a global snapshot of bird abundance and distribution. Join SCRGP, The High Line Canal, and Denver Audubon to participate in the fun!
What is eBird?
We will be using eBird to track the birds we see along our walk. eBird is a worldwide bird checklist program that compiles millions of users’ bird sightings into one database. The Sand Creek Regional Greenway Partnership is partnering with the High Line Canal Conservancy and Denver Audubon to host a bird walk along at the intersection of the Greenway and High Line Canal. No experience or birding knowledge is needed to join! Bird fans of all ages and abilities are welcome. Each walk will be led by an experienced birder who will record all of the birds we see into eBird.

Bikes and Birds / Bicicletas y pájaros
Join SCRGP and Bikes Together for another Bikes and Birds event along the Sand Creek Greenway! All ages and abilities welcome. We will start the day with an optional opportunity to tune up your bike from 9-10am (+ learn some basic bike maintenance tips!), start the ride around 10am, stop at approximately half-mile intervals to bird, and make our way to Morrison Nature Center at Star K Ranch in Aurora (16002 E Smith Rd, Aurora, CO 80011). The total route is approximately 2.6 miles (5.2 miles round trip).
At Star K Ranch, City of Aurora naturalists will provide a short presentation on the Bald Eagles nesting at the site (yey!). After the presentation there will be an option to ride back to Triple Creek Trailhead, continue birding at Star K Ranch, or to arrange your own transportation from Star K Ranch back to your car/homes.
Coffee, water, and snacks will be provided at the start of the event, but we advise folks to come prepared with their own day pack for any extra water, snacks, sunscreen/bug spray, etc. that you need to be successful!
We are happy to offer transportation services and translation services upon request.

¡Únete a SCRGP y Bikes Together para otra edición del evento «Bikes and Birds» a lo largo de la vía verde de Sand Creek! Son bienvenidos participantes de todas las edades y niveles. BLNC Family Nature Adventure Day Pop-up
Join the SCRGP for a Nature Pop-up at Bluff Lake Nature Center for their Family Nature Adventure Day (FNAD)! SCRGP staff will be visiting Bluff Lake to connect with the communities around Sand Creek. Come check out our table with a fun kid-friendly nature activity and learn about upcoming events and programs. We hope to see you there!

Winter Bike to Work Day
Take in the winter beauty of Sand Creek and pedal over to the Wetland Park bridge for FREE hot coffee, cocoa, breakfast bites, and delightful conversation.
Address listed (6102 E 52nd Avenue) is the Wetland Park Trailhead. Pedal through the park and around the wetland path to reach the station.

Hawk Talk
Come out to the Greenway to join SCRGP as we partner with Nature’s Educators to provide a live bird presentation and bird walk. Learn about and interact with three hawks and then head out onto the trail to see if we can spot any birds in-action along the Sand Creek.

November Volunteer Day - CONFIRMED!
We are so thankful for our SCRGP volunteers and all that you do to make the greenway a beautiful and clean space for all to enjoy. Join us for our November Volunteer Work Day in Denver as we will be removing trash from the area near the Smith Road Trailhead and Sand Creek Art Walk!
Please wear closed toe shoes, a hat, and comfortable clothing. We will provide gloves and trash pickers, as well as water and snacks.
Specific project details will be sent out to registered participants via email before the event.
